Hancock Nursery School believes that constructive parent-teacher relationships are essential to successful, high quality early childhood education. Teachers provide opportunities throughout the school year for parents to help in their child’s classroom. For instance, parents are invited to:
Parents are also encouraged to visit the classroom or volunteer in the room at any time – even if it is just to pop in and read a story. We have found that the special interests and talents of parents greatly enhance children’s preschool experience and parent participation in the class is helpful and enjoyable to everyone.
Teachers at Hancock Nursery School are also committed to open and full communication with parents. Each teacher posts daily diaries outside the classroom to give parents insight into the school day, monthly class updates are published in the school newsletter, and teachers make a special effort to greet each parent or caregiver at drop-off or pick-up.
In addition to these ongoing informal communications, formal parent-teacher conferences are scheduled in October and May to discuss each child’s progress and any possible problems that the child may be experiencing. Parents may also request a conference with the Lead Teacher at any time during the year.
